Record turnout five days before midterms; President reshuffles weekend schedule for key Senate races in Iowa and Kansas.
More than 43 million Americans have already cast ballots ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections, according to an Associated Press analysis, nearly 10 million more than at the same point in 2022. Texas alone has recorded a 50% increase in early votes, with 6.3 million ballots cast so far.
President Donald Trump campaigned in Florida on Friday while former President Bill Clinton rallied Democrats in Mississippi. Trump has adjusted his weekend plans, adding rallies in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday to boost Republican turnout in competitive Senate contests.
The Justice Department is also intensifying its involvement in Alaska’s Senate race, seeking a court order to isolate certain ballots amid a criminal probe into a candidate who shares a name with Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan. The race is viewed as pivotal for control of the Senate.
Wall Street, meanwhile, posted its worst day since June on Friday as tech stocks continued to sell off on concerns that AI valuations had risen too high. The S&P 500 fell 1.8%.
With Election Day just days away, both parties are focused on driving turnout in the final stretch.
